Distance and duration:

The total distance of the Mount Batur hike is 7 km out and back for the shorter route and 11 kilometres back and forth for more of the route. The shorter route can take between 45 minutes to 1 hour if you’re at speedy pace. It will cost approximately twice as long since you will first walk through the forest. On the shorter route, you begin from a high point of 1250m at Pura Pasar Agung.

If you’re looking to take a full day trip in Kintamani You can take advantage of the Mount Batur Bali trekking tour along with coffee plants. You can you could even include water rafting on your tour itinerary!

The best time to climb Batur’s Mount Batur

The best time to go Mount Batur Sunrise Trekking volcano is in the dry season. From May through October, however any time when it’s dry can be a great time. In the time of rain, it could be dangerous because the possibility of slides can arise and rocks can become slippery. That brings us to the issue of hiking in high-quality shoes that have great grip. I’ll discuss the subject later, starting with “What to prepare before you hike Mount Batur”.

It is the ideal time to go hiking on Mount Batur in terms of an amazing sunrise, you need to be lucky based upon the time of year. We enjoyed a spectacular sunrise, with a little light fog hanging in the month of April. In October, when we visited, it was totally clear with any clouds , and we could see until the volcanoes of Lombok along with East Java! If you’re looking for low hanging clouds, the best months to go are September and August. Other months, you’ll have the chance of getting the most amazing cloud cover that makes one feel like they’re in heaven! Always consult with your expert about the ideal day to climb when you’re flexible with your timetable.

How difficult can you make it to do Mount Batur sunrise trekking?

The answer to this question is a bit subjective because it is all dependent on your fitness level as well as your experience the outdoors. We found it interesting to go on this Mount Batur sunrise hike in 2019 and 2021 in order to compare. Additionally, we took an alternative and shorter hike in 2021. Overall , I believe that it’s a good idea to do the Mount Batur hike is a moderate hike, and is feasible for anyone with no experience hiking. Naturally, on the way up you’ll be hiking in dark, and you’ll need to pay all-time attention and the aid of a flashlight or headlamp.

What do you need to know before you begin your hike on Mount Batur

  • Water is plentiful
  • Put on a jacket
Make sure you wear good hiking shoes. Sneakers are also effective.
  • Band-aids (in the case for blisters..)
  • Headlamp. Your guide may also have one available for you.
  • Energy drinks
  • Camera and lenses
  • Drone

The total hike will be about 2 hours, which means you’ll require at least one Liter of water. It’s possible to be cold at the top of the mountain, particularly when it’s cold and windy. Also, you’ll require an (light) winter jacket. Find shoes that you feel comfortable to walk in. Bring band-aids in the event of minor wounds or blisters. A flashlight for your camera or headlamp is essential in the initial hours. The terrain is uneven and at times you need to climb up a bit. If you notice that you’re hungry following your workout in the morning you should bring some (healthy) snacks along so that you can keep your motivation up. The majority of trekking trips include breakfast, which is made up of eggs cooked in boiling water using the heat from the volcano, bananas, hot chocolate drinks or coffee. It’s not fancy at all, and this is why I advise you to take a couple of snacks with you.

Tips on Climbing Mount Batur

1. The Best Time To Trek

The best time to climb is in the dry season. Because when climbing in the rainy season, the track will be very slippery and steep. But we also do in raining season. In general, climbers start climbing at 3:00. This was done so as not to miss the sunrise above the peak.

2. Prepare Your Physics, At Least A Week Before Climbing Date

Physical preparation before climbing a mountain is important, because the track on Mount Batur is quite draining and the weather can reduce your immunity, so that some altitude sickness can interfere with your adventure if you are not physically fit.

3. Mountain Climbing Equipment

Pay attention to the climbing equipment you bring, adjust to the rocky and sandy track typical of Volcano. We recommend using a capable mountain shoe, field clothes that are all-round and wear gaiters.

4. Climbing Guide

It is important for you who feel a novice climber, you should use the services of a guide or be in the right group or private, at least one person has climbed on Mount Batur. This is to minimize the risk of getting lost or other undesirable things.

5. Mental Questions

After physical, equipment and climbing friends. Next is the mental problem. How you see the hiking trail is easy or easy depending mentally. Many climbers who are mentally strong are able to reach the top of Jayawijaya and many climbers whose mentality is not strong cannot reach the top of Volcano.

6. Safety first

In every climb, the summit is just a bonus, while the main goal is to go home safely. Therefore, if conditions are not possible, such as friends who are sick or in bad weather, you should not force the will to get to the top, anyway the peak will not run anywhere.

Spectacular! Look no further 🙂
This was by far the best experience I had as far as the activities we did at Bali. Professional, friendly and seamless from pick up to drop and everything in between! Our driver was Gede who was extremely friendly and spoke excellent english. He was informative and really made the trip smooth for us from start to end. Pick up was at 1:30 am from our Villa in Seminyak and we reached in slightly over an hour. Here we met our wonderful guide Gede (same name but different person!) He was accompanies by the most sweetest girl Milli who was his niece and helped us so much along the way.
Gede really made the trek even more amazing, he was so patient with us as we took quite a few breaks and were not the fastest climbers! Once again perfect English and a great Once we reached the top, he took a gazillion stunning pictures for us and led us safely back.
I would highly recommend doing this Trek with the company. The trek itself is slightly tedious but so so worth it. Make sure to carry something warm and have really sturdy shoes on you. 11/10 for a superb experience!!!

Sunrise trek up Mt. Batur

I booked my climb via the website through email correspondence. The responses were almost immediate for all my inquiries and no payment was requested upfront.
On the morning of the trek, I was picked up on time although I was late, but the driver waited for me.

The climb was fantastic and the entire team involved from the drivers, guides to the owner were very well informed and organized.

Note that you have to be fit and ready for this climb with head torches and proper trekking shoes. The lose volcanic sand towards the sumit makes it a challenge for both ascent and decent.

I would recommend Ventur Bali private tours for this trek up Mt.Batur.

Highly Recommended

We booked trek through his website. We initially booked the volcano climb (which was out of this world) but we end up loving Whyan our driver so much, we wanted to spend 4 days with him. We let him be our tour guide and dictate where to go. He showed us true Balinese culture and took us to amazing places and villages. Without Whyan, our trip wouldn’t be the same!

Thank you to Pineh for welcoming us to his home and to Whyan for providing us with an amazing and unforgettable experience.

Beautiful sunrise

Beautiful view to sunrise and fog leaving the lake! But beware of some quite difficult climbs with rocky, sandy and slippery parts. Various prices are quoted for the tour, but IDR 400+500 thousand should be the normal price for the group

Mrs. Claudia Klein

The trekking conditions are not clarified and unless you have good, right footwear, it is quite troublesome. It is a long and steep journey especially the last part.

Cool experience!

Even though it was a difficult and long journey of about two hours on a small road, it was worth the pain! Above, you get beautiful views of the lake and mountains across. The moment when the sun rises is really beautiful! Just don’t forget to bring a warm jacket because it’s cold enough before the sun rises.

Misty but worth it.

Just like the feeling of trekking early in the morning. The weather is nice (it’s cold there) but I can see the sun rising there.

What a great way to see a new day in …

This is a good start, but a great way to see a new day.
My local tour guide, Adi Putra, was amazing! Very knowledgeable about the area and the history of the mountain, also friendly and accommodating.
I would recommend this to anyone. This is one of the volcanoes which is smaller in height, so it would be suitable for pedestrians of all fitness levels.
A must do on your next Bali trip!

Extraordinary Sunrise

I was trekking with a group of friends, but one of our friends had done it before so knew where to go. We had to climb Mount Batur by car and start trekking around 2am. It’s not easy at all, you really need good shoes and a flashlight. That can also be very cold. Especially when you are at the peak waiting for the sun to rise, so it’s best for a jacket, scarf and warm hat. I have heard many negative stories about sunrise trekking because it is often very crowded on the mountain, but when I leave, it is really quiet. During the whole climb I did not see anyone else who did not belong to our group. This is good, of course. We arrived at the peak almost 1 hour early. The sun rises at 6 am so we have to wait. There is no shelter against the wind at all !! We are tired and very very cold. But the sunrise is worth the whole trip. Shortly before sunrise more people arrive at the summit but many also arrive late. I like being in front of people. The way down is much easier. After trekking we go to a nearby hot spring to relax and unwind. This is one of the best things I do in Bali.

Not easy, but it can be done

Picked up at 2 in the morning from Sanur and a quick breakfast in a small before starting the climb. Meet our local guides at the foot of the mountain where they provide torch lights for climbing. The climb started easily but eventually became quite steep. There are a lot of tourists climbing so basically follow the person in front and don’t rotate your ankles. There will be breakfast served at the summit (don’t expect anything fantastic besides some snacks to fill your stomach) where you will wait for the sun to rise. It’s hard to get good photos with the number of people there but the scenery is definitely worth the climb. The journey will then continue to go down on the other side but it will be more difficult to personally go down then go up because of the slippery volcanic ash. If it wasn’t for the local guide who held my hand along the way I might not have come down safely. Overall a very good experience but be prepared for dusty shoes and feet
