We arrived at the beginning of the river at 9:30 and were welcomed by its beautiful landscape design overlooking the Ubud forest. Once we were properly equipped, we started walking down the river, an easy walk down a very long staircase (think 500 steps). However, the view during the trip down, is definitely worth it!

When we got to the bottom, our guide gave us a safety briefing and explained the dos and don’ts of our trip. There were only four of us on the boat, and with a married couple from Lebanon, we started our rafting trip.

The speeds themselves are quite stable, as they vary from Class II to Class III. Generally, we move fast enough because we take time to admire the things around us. The theme is amazing! We were surrounded by deep valleys and waterfalls as we wandered through the dense forest of central Ubud.

There was an exciting rush that kept us close to the top, but overall it was quiet, perfect for those who want to enjoy the scenery to the fullest. The rapids are also calm enough for families with children.

Insider Tip: If you want a more intense canyoning experience, Bali Sobek also organizes trips on the Telaga Waja River, home to many Class III rapids around the world!

We stopped by the river, where a local family opened a shop selling drinks, fresh cocoa and snacks. Although there are many tour operators, Bali Sobek is well run and well organized. Many other rafters have stopped at the river earlier, but since Bali Sobek was one of the first, they chose the last place after the incredible speed!

At the beginning of the journey, the forest is beautiful and beautiful, but sadly, at the end of the river there are large resorts located near the river. Don’t get me wrong, there are nice resorts, but they don’t add much to the overall feel of the experience because I’d rather be surrounded by nature than the world.

After about two hours of paddling down the river, we reached our last stop. Then we started climbing the long stairs to the Bali Sobek garden restaurant.

They have fresh water there and towels for those who want to shower. Afterwards, we continued to enjoy a delicious meal of traditional Indonesian cuisine. Until then, we didn’t realize how hungry we were, until we saw food!

The team behind Bali Sobek are all very professional, they make sure that every step of the trip was easy and convenient for us. Their equipment and crew were some of the best we saw on the river that day. The level of professionalism that people have is very impressive. Since we rode a motorcycle to the starting point, they even arranged for one of their employees to ride our bikes to the end so we didn’t have to worry about catching a taxi back. How great!
