Very well organized from the moment we were picked up by our driver (in our villa it was hard to find!) To quad bikes, lunch and drive back. We were lucky enough to be in a small group because we arrived quite early. A real mix of terrain to make the experience challenging but not too difficult for our family which is a real blend of ability, with athletics, adrenaline, an athletic 20-year-old son with his 50-year-old mother who is not too athletic, we all succeed and have fantastic experience. Guides are very helpful when needed. However, one tip, don’t forget to bring socks because it will lend you wellie boots.

Should be done !!
The sunrise trip to the volcano is amazing. Start early in the dark, climb for about 2 hours and then watch the sun rise. Beautiful viewpoints above and the idea of climbing active volcanoes. Overall, an amazing experience!
We checked with 3-4 local tour operators and our hotel before ordering from one we felt comfortable with.
The hard part is the beginning. We were picked up from our hotel around 2:30 in the morning and reached the base in 3 hours. Here we wait a minute where our guide gives us ‘breakfast’ – pancake , some fruit and coffee. Most tour operators include this as part of the trip – but it’s better to reconfirm because some will charge for it later. Alternately, you can package food from your hotel.
The base area is where all the tourists and guides gather and in the span of about 30 minutes each person starts the journey, in their own group.
The guide provides a torch for everyone and it is recommended to bring a jacket because sometimes it can be very cold until 7 o’clock in the morning. Half the tourists shivered once they reached the top because it was a cold and cloudy day.
The journey starts on flat ground and ramps through fields and then after the midpoint, becomes quite steep. Takes about 2 hours total and requires a decent level of fitness. Walking / running shoes are a good idea – some wear sandals and this makes it difficult.
After the above, this guide takes you to a place from where you can see the sun rise. After this, we walked a little to see the points that emit steam.
The trip down is rather slippery and takes about 90 minutes. We arrived at headquarters around 9 am, drank coffee and returned to the car
