I booked directly with Bali White Water Rafting after doing a google search on all of the options available and also looking through hotel brochures.
I liked the fact that the owner of this company has responded to some of the 5 star reviews on TripAdvisor correcting people who have inadvertently given their review on the wrong company (his rather than a rival company). This demonstrated to me that attention to detail is important to this business owner and that is something that appeals to me. Many would have simply not responded and let the error slide therefore denying other companies their good reviews.
I made an online enquiry regarding price, itinerary and availability and received a very quick response that the following morning was available. I confirmed our booking via WhatsAp SMS and that evening received the name of the driver who would be collecting us together with his vehicle type and license plate number.
As arranged he arrived punctually at our hotel lobby on the morning of our excursion and although his English was imperfect, he was friendly and happy to answer any of our questions regarding local places and customs to the best of his ability. He was a very safe and courteous driver and went out of his way to ensure a smooth ride (slowing down considerably over speed humps/pot holes ect when my husband was napping).
The area this company uses to launch the rafts is only steps away from where the driver drops you off and the guide is there to greet you and run through safety/technique instructions and hand out life jackets and helmets,
I felt confident and safe from start to finish and the rafting itself was great fun with just enough adventure without ever feeling in danger.
There was a short stop at a lovely waterfall and an opportunity to purchase a drink ( you will need to take a small amount of cash if you wish to do this) then back onto the raft for some more fun all the while surrounded by beautiful tropical greenery.
At the end of the trip there are a few dozen steps to climb in order to reach the area where a simple but tasty and plentiful lunch awaits. It’s not the sort of place I would ordinarily feel comfortable eating at but the lady who had prepared it was so friendly and welcoming that it seemed rude to refuse. Again drinks may be purchased at a very reasonable price.
Bathroom facilities are not fancy and I would have liked to have somewhere to hang clothes etc to solve the problem of not wanting to put things on the damp floor.
The same driver was waiting for us at this location and was ready to take us back to our hotel as soon as we were ready.
I would recommend booking directly with Bali White Water Rafting in order to ensure
– private pick up/drop off ie not having to stop and start collecting other people from hotels along the way as some larger group bookings would.
– minimal steep walking down to rafts and then up again at the end of the trip like some other groups had to do. We noticed some tour groups stopped considerably earlier than we did and had a long walk back to their vans.
-competitive price (no middle man/commission to pay)
-no hard sell (photos/cd’s) at the end or unnecessary stops along the way (silver, woodcarving/coffee bean plantations) however our driver did offer us the opportunity and would have been happy to stop along the way home. He was in absolutely in no way pushy and remained cheerful all day despite many many hours of driving for him that day (he lives up near the rafting and our hotel was a 1 3/4 drive each way so all up 7 hours driving minimum for him.
TIPS
Take a backpack/bag with a change of clothes as this may be left with your driver so you won’t need to take it on the raft or risk it becoming wet.
Bring some cash and a waterproof camera or phone and wear thongs (flip flops). The guide will have waterproof bags for these and will be handy at the waterfall stop which provides good photo opportunity and drinks stop.
As always, some extra cash to reward exceptional service. I noticed a few people embarrassed because they didn’t think to bring money and wanted to offer a voluntary tip to their guide. We also tipped our driver. I suspect many drivers would get a commission through stopping at various places along the way and encouraging you to spend but our driver respected our wishes to go directly to and from the rafting.

Ayung rafting was well suited for first timers. The briefing was clear and safety equipment was provided. We met at the location with a voucher and everything went as planned.
This was a really, really cheap trip. It was so cheap that I was a little worried, I needn’t have worried at all – the day was excellently run and I felt very safe from beginning to end. We were picked up from our hotel at the allotted time and transferred to the rafting centre. Belongings were put in lockers and were taken in a jeep a 10 minute drive into the jungle. The steep steps down were a little challenging but everyone in our group made it down safely. We were allocated boats in groups of 6 and given a short safety briefing. The rapids were fun and half way down there is an opportunity to stop for a drink – no need to carry cash they bill you back at the office. At the end of the rafting session there is an opportunity to swim, before climbing back to the top for an included lunch and return transfers to your hotel. A fun morning.

La descente est splendide . Pas très sportive (presque dommage !) et accessible à tous avec de belles surprises (cascades, chute d’eau à faire en canot)
Un bateau s’est retourné pendant le trajet : tous les encadrants ont super bien réagis, avec vitesse et professionnalisme . Nous ne nous sommes jamais sentis en danger !
