Water temperatures range from lukewarm to slightly hotter, although there is no hot-water pool, and most are generally warmer in the morning. Although some hot springs have the word “natural” in their names, don’t expect a natural environment, because everything here consists of tile pools.

The day starts very very early, and if your not much of a morning person like myself it can be tough…but it’s well worth it!

The hike itself is not too difficult, even when the rain was pouring down on us! The views from the top are amazing and the steam rising from cracks in the crater is pretty cool! You have to go with a tour guide but don’t expect anything fantastic from them; our tour guide and guides for other groups were prone to walking ahead and leaving people behind…but don’t worry, there’s only one way up and down so you can’t get lost!

We were book Mt. Sunrise trekking in Monkey forest Street Ubud for couple of us, collected at 2:20 am by friendly driver in our hotel The Alaya. Drive about 1 hour to the base of volcano and introduce to Geday as our guide. Geday was just excellent local guide, friendly, helpful, informative and has good hospitality manner. We took 2 hours hike till the summit, the sunrise was truly breathtaking and we got light breakfast while enjoying sunrise.

    Important and things to know!!
Make sure bring jacket and wear proper hiking boots.

Careful with the monkeys in the crater, they can steal your important think.

There is no toilet on the mountain, do not eat a lot the night before hike.

The hike not difficult but tiring for less exercises.

If you want friendly, helpful, informative and has good hospitality manner local guide Contact Geday on his WHatsApp +6281239314484, he will serve you such as what we had.

You have to do this with a guide or else you will get some problems.

The hike is not suited for everybody, even tho the locals will tell you this. You should have at least some cardiopower. Do not expect to be on your own, because you will be next to dozens of tourists. I mean dozens!!
On our way to the top some people gave up and waited for their group to come down.
The breakfast is just a bread, jam and a banana.

Wear good shoes (no flipflops!!) and bring some warm clothes, because it is really fresh on the top.

Beside those negative points, the trekking route is nice and the view is amazing!

Effectivement faire du trekking la nuit est légèrement … Hardcore mais le jeu en vaut la chandelle ! 100% de chance que vous allez apprécier ! Prevoir bonne condition physique, tenue et chaussure adequates, et des bouteilles d’eau !
Next step mont argung 3400m !

That is crazy 🙂 walk to the summit of volcano to meet the beautiful sunrise ever. The hike was moderate but tiring, would definitely hiking boots the best one for this hike. Please do not hike Mt. batur with flip flops, there is a lot of loss rock and danger for you. Highly recommend.

We joined a group trekking arranged by a local tourist information point in Ubud which you can find on every street corner. You pay about 200.000 a person for the tour. They’ll pick you up between 1.30 am and 2.00 am at your hotel/homestay. After a 2 hours ride you arrive at Mount Batur and get some basic lunch, small bottle of water, and a torch. The climb can be done on sneakers but mountain shoes are advised. Don’t forget long cloths as it is cold on the top in the morning. There is just 1 way up with a lot of tourists and 4 to 6 tourists per guide. After 2 hours you reach the top to see an astonishing view of the sunrise over Bali. You can see others mountains, a lake, and Lombok. After spending 1 or 2 hours walking on the top, feeding macaque monkeys, and feeling the hot air from the active volcano, you climb back and they will bring you back to your hostel (not before a stop near a luwak coffee farm… just don’t buy something and as a group tell the driver to go home). Around 10 or 11 they’ll bring you home and you’ll need time to catch up some sleep. Although a bit dangerous and quite a climb, most people can reach the top and it was truly magnificent.

As the weather was cloudy and overcast during our stay in Bali we arranged for a day trek up Mt Batur. We arrived at the base at approximately 11.00am and started the trek through the lower rain forest. The brochure promised “a 5km long slope challenging but not too difficult”. It also promised a light snack and hiking stick if required. We got nothing not even water, if you are going to do the trek bring your own!

As we left the rain forest the sun broke from behind the clouds and the temperature rose accordingly. Our young guide then led the way up a track that in stages required vertical climbing skills. When I asked if this was the only way up the mountain he said yes. My adult son and I are pretty fit but it was very tough. The calf and thigh muscles get a good workout.

Spectacular views of the lake as you ascend the mountain and relief as you get to the top. I had my GPS going on the trip up which recorded just under 3 km so we had obviously travelled a different route to the brochure.

The effort is worth it though. Words cannot describe the view from the top. Sensational. Looking down on the crater, the lava flows, the lake, the villages, an amazing landscape.

Luckily for us we were able to buy water to have with our egg and banana sandwiches cooked in the steam from the volcano.

We went on further to the highest point of the mountain and descended down the opposite side which was not as steep but lots of loose stone and dirt. The descent was just over 5 km’s which must be the track referred to in the brochure. Still a challenging walk/slide but not as tough.

Highly recommended but bring your own water.

    09/07/2016

Wouldnt recommend it for everybody because its a long way without much safety but definetly worth it, just watch your step and be careful. And bring warm clothes with you because I underestimated the cold of the night on a mountain.
