Water temperatures range from lukewarm to slightly hotter, although there is no hot-water pool, and most are generally warmer in the morning. Although some hot springs have the word “natural” in their names, don’t expect a natural environment, because everything here consists of tile pools.

This is my second chance hike volcano in Bali and it was incredible view from the summit of Batur volcano 1,717 m. The tour guide Geday was very kind and helpful. Yummy breakfast served on the summit, had boiled egg in the ground is another unique experiences. Overall 5 to 5 start!
Unfortunately, the trek wasn’t as positive as other people’s experience. The pick up was on time which was great and we got everything described in the package. Our guide stormed ahead of us and barely stopped which was incredibly difficult as I have asthma. The trek is a good work out and I would have been fine had we stopped more than twice in an hour/gone at a steadier pace. We had 45 minutes to wait at the top so we weren’t in a particular rush to make sunrise. Keep in mind you are trekking on very rocky terrain, in the dark as you start at around 4am and with only a hand torch.
There were a lot of people and so you could not enjoy a peaceful viewing and when climbing it seemed every single guide was competing against the other. Every time I even paused somebody was pushing at my back, trailing me the whole way.
One guide lead his group down an alternative path and a girl fell and grazed her entire leg because he was trying to out compete other guides/groups.
This is in no way controllable but it was extremely cloudy during our sunrise so the best we got was a watery photo of the sun peaking out of some clouds.
For me, this was a bad experience but if you are aware that there will be many tourists, it’s a steep climb and an early start with no guarantee of seeing a good sunrise then you should be fine.
Would start by saying this isn’t something for the faint hearted. It is a genuine trek, is tiring, and there is a good chance of lots of falling over onto rocks. Going up is very tiring, and coming down does take a long time. Wear trainers, have 1 jumper to wear if cold at the top (but make sure you can strip off as hot when climbing).
The view at the top is incredible and well worth it. Yes the breakfast is simple, but it is all authentic.
Don’t get ripped off, about 300 Is all you should be looking to pay. Every single travel agent sells the same thing, there is no variants!
Would say it is very busy. You are in small groups of 4-6 but about 100-120 climb each day!
The hotel pickup was on time, which was great since we had to wake up very early in the morning.
The trek guide has been very informative, assistive, helpful, and friendly, making the 2.5 hour trek up to Mt. Batur bearable.
Well the caldera look very big from the summit of Mt. Agung, a small Volcano Batur rise up just in the middle of huge caldera. I’ll concur next time!
Mount batur sunrise trekking is one of the best sunrise trek in Bali, the hike just 2 hours till the summit. Views offered just excellent, landscape of caldera just amazing. Recommended visit in Bali.
I hiked Mount Batur this summer when I was in Bali. I found the hike challenging on two accounts, first it was mostly in the dark and second, the 2nd part of the climb was very steep.
One recommendation is to bring an extra sweat shirt or top with you for when you get to the top as you will be hot and sweaty and it will be cooler at the top. Also make sure you bring water with you otherwise you will have to pay for it along the way which is not worth the cost.
Booked through our guesthouse in Ubud, we were picked up promptly at 2am and driven to a small warung for breakfast (fried bananas and tea?!) which we didn’t really need then onto the base car park at Mount Batur where we met our guide Ketut and were given more breakfast (bread, banana & egg & water) to take on our trek. We were all, given torches as it was still dark when we set off at four am. There were nine in our group including ourselves and our two sons in their twenties. Ketut made sure we were all keeping up although it was a pretty quick pace and he helped me quite a few times to find the best footing for the climb. We got to the top at six am and half of our group went onto the second climb. We stayed, as it was only 20 mins to sunrise and we would’ve had to be very quick to reach the second summit. I do feel if we hadn’t spent so much time in the cafe we would’nt have had to go so quick up the mountain. Anyway it was a wonderful view from the top and it was worth the early start. Going down was harder and quite a few people fell on the loose stones. Quite well organised, tiring but worth it.
