Jero Susun was our Mount Batur guide for my sunrise trek during a short stay in Bali. He was highly recommended to us by companion, and sure he did not disappoint. From reservation up was very responsive over email and was flexible enough to accommodate everything what we need for our hike. On the day, was picked up punctual and drop off safety as well.

Your hike starts at 1.45 am and you begin to take on the mountain in the pick dark 4am. It takes about 2 hours hike can be done by most participants, but it is a bit of a moderate sunrise hike, so if you novice and okay with that think twice!
We are couple of Australian who enthusiast to conquer Mount Batur really enjoying our trip despite need big effort to make it. You will need warm clothing as it gets cold at the top, hiking boots with good grip and a sense of adventure as in the dark you have travel in the darkness on the rocky.

We booked this activity thru EOASIA website. It was a first time experience for my family to start an activity at 2am inclusive of land transfer. But it felt safe as the tour guide was attentive and experienced and we were provided with torch lights. This activity is physically challenged as it is a 2-hour hike one way and there are steep and slippery sections. The temperature at the summit is about 16-18 degrees and windy so make sure you are in proper attire. A walking stick would be useful.
We were collected in Ubud at 2.30am by smooth hour’s drive to the starting point where you started walking to the mountain. Yes it does get very cold on the top of the mountain especially if very windy, but bring something can easily wear during the climb as the workout will keep your body warm, warm jacket is recommended. The whole hike is about 2hours up and 2 hours down include explore rim crater, and you spend about an hour at the top while having breakfast. Our guide Jero Susun brought breakfast which is great taste (yummy).
Since a day before I particularly worried about the weather as I saw lightning in the night and weather forecast mentioned thunderstorms and rain but our driver assured us that the weather was going to be fine and it was right.

The sunrise trek was by far my favorite activity I did while in Bali for 18 days. It starts early– pickup at 2:30 am, and the hike is pretty steep uphill. BUT, it is short– only took us 55 minutes to get up, and it is SO worth it. We beat the sunrise by 2 hours, so got to watch shooting stars while drinking coffee and eating banana sandwiches and Oreos. Then the sunrise was absolutely unbelievable. Straight off a postcard. Highly recommend this!

The view from the top absolutely breathtaking, whole time up you are definitely going to wonder why you decided to wake up early morning to climb volcano and its one of the most exhausting treks but the view makes it worth it “worth every single step”. The sun rising in the distance as you stand above the clouds is something you can’t dream but it I did experience. I would do it again and definitely with the lovely Jero Susun!

Prévoir une veste chaude pour l’arrivée en haut. Vous aurez droit à des singes pour la descente. Prévoir pommes ou bananes si vs souhaitez pour en donner.

Recently, we had a wonderful experience trekking up to the active volcano in Bali ( Mount Batur ) with him. We stayed in Ubud at Jalan Monkey forest and it was picked up @ 2.30 am then travel 1 h 15 minutes to base of volcano where our super Jero as our Mount Batur guide.
We took 2 hours ascent to the peak 1.717 m with moderate to difficult path. Once reaching the top, beautiful sunrise amazed our eyes, absolutely pay off the effort!! The best thins I had during e]ascent is walking up in the darkness around, nothing to see except small path 🙂 🙂 Nothings to see till once the sun come up brightening the universe, truly beautiful. We must say about Jero who was excellent local guide, he very much helpful, teaching, motivating, disciplined and inspiring person. To be honest, without him we don’t know what experienced we got from the mountain, definitely wouldn’t be the same as what we feel now. Surely experiences become memorable cause of person who with! For this activities 60% because of the excellent our local guide Jero and 40% only because of trekking activities. Would be definitely recommend him and this activities!
